This diamond was fashion in the 1900’s; today’s diamond is modified with more than 56 facets to it. The cut of the diamond doesn’t have as brilliant in essence as say the rounder cut diamonds as a much higher quality of diamond is needed as this cut diamond is prone to inclusions or flaws as they are sometimes known.

There are some things to keep in mind when buying this diamond, namely that the diamond will have to be of a higher overall quality for the deeper cutting that is required for this diamond. The look of this diamond is slightly understated as the bigger diamonds aren’t practical for this cut. The look of the diamond is said to resemble a hall of mirrors it has a stepping configuration in the diamond with a almost a three dymential affect to it.
The setting of your diamond will however accentuate the height and ability if the diamond to show light. The typical setting for this diamond is a four prong setting where the diamond isn’t deeply set but lifted for height and showcasing. The choice for your diamond and setting is a personal choice that will differ from bride to be. The best thing to do is to go along to a high street jewellery store at least initially to try the various styles and setting combinations where you can see for your self the shape diamond that suits your ring finger.
If you choose to then shop on line at least you have a good idea of what suits you personally. Sometimes the task can seem daunting, but the fun of trying on all the style diamonds in the jewellery shop is all part of the romance and fun of getting engaged and announcing to the world, or at least the shop assistant that you are an engaged couple.

what should i look for when trying to select the perfect cushion cut diamond? should i concentrate more on finding a square cushion as opposed to a rectangular cushion?
if the dimentions of the diamond are not as close to a perfect square, will the cushion diamond loose some of its sparkle?

Radiant cut diamonds come in a wonderful squarish or rectangular cut shape. While not as popular as the other fancy cut diamonds, Radiant cut diamonds are adored by many diamond connoisseurs.
Radiant Cut Diamond is considered the father of 'branded' fancy cut diamonds with a birth over 20 years ago. The Radiant Cut Diamond is the first rectangular cut to have a complete brilliant facet pattern applied to both the crown and pavilion.
Radiant cut diamonds have an eye-catching “kaleidoscope” effect that have more “points of light” reflected within the diamond than any other cut.
The Radiant Cut diamond: is a straight-edged rectangular or square stone with cut corners. The Radiant cut is a patented cut with 70 facets and is often confused with a “cut corners Princess / Quadrillions”.
The cut corners are distinguishing of this fancy shaped diamond, and they aid in the brilliance of the diamond. Radiant cut diamonds are used mainly as centre stones for rings and pendants and look beautiful when set with baguette or trilliant cut shoulder stones.
When choosing a Radiant cut diamond consider the colour grade, colour grades below J can cause the colour to appear slightly more visible in the corners.
Radiant cut diamonds are cut to either a square or rectangular shape and it is a matter of personal preference.
For a Radiant cut diamond that is square in shape a length to width ratio of 1:1.10 is typical, if you are looking for a Radiant cut diamond that is more rectangular then a length to width ratio of 1.20 - 1.50 is best.
Due to its large facet, it is important to consider a stone that has a great color and clarity rating. Like other similar cuts, the Radiant cut diamond will show inclusions and imperfections very easily so make sure the stone is of the right quality before purchasing.
Radiant cut diamonds are great for engagement rings and wedding rings, as well as other high quality jewelry. If you are interested in squarish or rectangular diamond cuts, you might also want to consider the Cushion cut diamond, Emerald cut diamond or the Asscher cut diamond.

When I look at stones with the same cut, color, clarity, carat size, cushion cuts and asscher cuts are less expensive than the round cut diamonds. What is the reason for the price difference? Thanks.

So, that leaves us with the Cushion cut diamond, and let’s see why they have a special place in the diamond hall of fame. Here are some very interesting facts about cushion cut diamonds.
• This is one of the most respected and recognized cuts of diamonds – especially in antique diamonds. This is probably the only cut which was accepted all over right from the early 19th century. When you compare that with the princess cut, which was invented in 1960, you will realize how valued this cut really has to be.
• Most of the heirloom diamonds in old families all over the United States and Europe were cushion cut, leading to the style becoming a very popular one at auctions and estate deals all over the world.
• Many cushion cut diamonds have been refashioned by modern jewelers into other contemporary cuts, so that they would appeal to the current generation of diamond lovers.
• The cushion cut is also known as the pillow cut or the candle light cut, as the shape resembles that of a pillow (or a cushion), and the light reflected out of the diamond resembles the light emanating from a lit candle.
• The cut and the light reflected out of a cushion cut diamond is not as fiery or brilliant as say a round cut or even a princess cut, but the soft romantic feeling that a cushion cut diamond gives is absolutely unmatchable by any other kind of a diamond cut.
• The cushion cut is an offshoot of the old mine cut, which was very popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The old mine cut was a deep cut with large facets; and as people started preferring smaller cut diamonds, the depth and the facet size was reduced to make the shape more like an oval cut diamond. It is this combination that is known as a cushion cut diamond.
• Another reason why the diamond has the name of a ‘candle light’ diamond is because in the earlier times, there were no electric lights, and diamonds used to be cut in the light provided by candles. The soft glow that used to emanate from these cushion cut diamonds could not be matched by the old mine cut or even some of the more modern cuts. Hence, these diamonds became the standard gift for romantic occasions like anniversaries, proposals, and other such special days.
• Getting good cushion cut diamonds at diamond stores is not too easy, as a lot of jewelers do not stock this cut. Even if they do, they will have just a couple of stones, and that is too little choice for you to choose from. However, reputed online diamond retailing stores like www.diamondsonweb.com have a collection that is both exquisite and affordable. That is understandable, as they have been in the diamond trade for over 25 years and their warehouses house some of the largest collections of brilliant cut diamonds.
• When you buy online, you will also have access to some amazing offers, which will save you a lot of money in the setting and side stones (if required). Anyway the diamonds are pretty economical when you compare them to the street prices. With the savings in the settings, you stand to get a deal which is 30-40% better than at your regular jeweler – with a money back policy in place, if you are not happy!
Try it out, and surprise your loved one.
